  23.         *** JUST WHAT IS WINCHECK ***
  24.  
  25.  WinCheck is designed to manage any number of checking, savings, and credit
  26.  card accounts.  Since WinCheck's initial release last year, it has
  27.  developed into a top-notch financial manager.  WinCheck's features include
  28.  a Check Form Designer, to build check templates for printing on virtually
  29.  any pre-printed check form (dot matrix and laser checks are both supported).
  30.  
  31.  The Custom Report Maker allows you to view and print a variety of supplied
  32.  reports, such as cash flow reports, or create custom reports tailored to your
  33.  own needs.  With the Custom Report Maker, you can print an entertainment
  34.  expense report, a credit/deposit history, or all tax deductible transactions
  35.  for the year to date.
  36.  
  37.  WinCheck's transaction classifications, or "categories," allow you to keep
  38.  track of the money earned and spent on categories such as Business and 
  39.  Entertainment.  WinCheck's budgeting facilities can be used in combination
  40.  with these categories to plan a monthly budget.  Add reoccurring transactions
  41.  to a menu or have WinCheck remind you to make transactions such as mortgage
  42.  payments and paycheck deposits. WinCheck also supports Windows Dynamic Data
  43.  Exchange (DDE) and sports an internal batch language.

  45.  WinCheck offers an exceptionally attractive and intuitive user interface
  46.  featuring a Control Bar, Status Bar, iconic "Toolbox," and check registers
  47.  with adjustable column widths.  Checks and other transactions appear as 3-D
  48.  dialog boxes with bitmapped backgrounds.  Screen colors and fonts are fully
  49.  customizable.  Standard operations, such as writing checks and making deposits,
  50.  may be performed by clicking on icons from the Control Bar.

  52.  The online help facility and intuitive user interface pretty much precludes
  53.  the need for a manual, although the 200 page, heavily illustrated manual 
  54.  does further detail many of WinCheck's features with various examples.

  79.  This new 3.0 version has a variety of new features.  They are:
  80.  
  81.    a) Quicken import capability
  82.    b) Custom report generation
  83.    c) Color and font customization
  84.    d) Improved help files
  85.    e) Ability to print Landscape checks (with newer printer drivers)
  86.    f) Ability to handle multiple accounts
  87.    g) No limit on number of monthly transactions
  88.  
  89.  New to version 3.0G of WinCheck:
  90.  
  91.   a) New "Print Direct" feature for printing one check at a time to
  92.      Dot-Matrix style printers (no page eject).
  93.   b) Categories can now be classified as Income, Expense, or Both. 
  94.      All of your categories from your current version will default to
  95.      "Both".  You can modify these categories to specify income or 
  96.      expense with the "Edit Categories" dialog.  By indicating Income
  97.      or Expense, your budget reports will be more informational.
  98.   c) Categories can be classified as Tax deductible.  When you enter a
  99.      new transaction, the "Tax Deductible" box will automatically check
  100.      when you select one of these categories.  You can, however, still
  101.      un-check the box if you desire.
  102.   d) Expandability!  WinCheck now allows you to add custom tools to your
  103.      menu.  These tools use DDE to communicate with WinCheck.  A sample
  104.      tool has been included to manage Payroll deposits.  The tool is 
  105.      called PAYROLL.EXE and requires that you have the VBRUN100.DLL 
  106.      file to run (Visual Basic Engine).
  107.  
  108.      To add this Payroll tool, select "Add Tool..." from the Tools menu,
  109.      and type PAYROLL.  If PAYROLL.EXE is in a different directory than
  110.      WinCheck, indicate the full path of PAYROLL.EXE.  Once you have
  111.      added the tool, you will find it on your Tools menu.
  112.  
  113.      The source code to PAYROLL and the source code to a more simple
  114.      add-on tool (Visual Basic) have been included on the distribution
  115.      disk in the DDE.ZIP file.
  116.  e)  The categories for the Budget, Cash Flow, Profit/Loss, and category
  117.      reports are now in alphabetical order (instead of order of entry). 
  118.  f)  New pre-defined categories on startup of account or by running
  119.      WinCheck command file.

  122.           *** REGISTRATION REMINDERS ***
  123.  
  124.  Evaluation copies of WinCheck are 100% fully functional.  The sole
  125.  limitation you may find is that the evaluation copies are unable to
  126.  import data generated by previous versions of the WinCheck program.

  128.  Evaluation copies of WinCheck have a pesky registration reminder screen
  129.  that pops up whenever you start the program.  Thats it!
  130.  
  131.  We're not going to beat you about the head and shoulders with our
  132.  reminder screens.  We're sure that once you see the incredible quality
  133.  of our software, you will dig out your credit card, pick up the phone,
  134.  call the nice people at our 800 number and register WinCheck.

  154.       *** FOR WINCHECK <= 2.2A USERS ***
  155.  
  156.   Evaluation copies of WinCheck cannot convert data files from
  157.   previous versions of WinCheck.
  158.  
  159.   If you are using WinCheck Version 2.2A or lesser, converting
  160.   to WinCheck 3.0 data is easy!  Just open the account in
  161.   WinCheck 3.0.  WinCheck will ask you for starting Balances.
  162.   Leave all values at 0.00.  The account will be named "Previous
  163.   Version".  Type in your own personal description of the account
  164.   (i.e. "My Personal Savings").  When prompted for a checkbook,
  165.   just press OK.  Basically, accepting the default values will
  166.   convert your account perfectly!  For more information refer to
  167.   Appendix D, "Updating from Previous Version", on the WinCheck
  168.   User's manual.

  170.  
  171.        *** HOW TO INSTALL WINCHECK ***
  172.  
  173.  This installation assumes that you either have an ZIP file that you
  174.  just unzipped that contains WinCheck, or that you are looking at one
  175.  of our evaluation diskettes.  In any case, installation is simple:
  176.  
  177.     1) Create a new temporary directory to hold some files during the
  178.        installation process.  This directory will be deleted later.
  179.     
  180.        C:\XXX
  181.  
  182.     2) Copy ALL the files from the installation diskette or the unzip
  183.        directory to the directory you just created.
  184.  
  185.     3) Run the WCMAKE.EXE program.  It will create all the files required
  186.        to run the WinCheck setup program.
  187.  
  188.     4) If you are not already running Windows...start Windows.
  189.  
  190. THEN...
  191.  
  192.  Use our SETUP-WC.EXE program, which will copy the files for you and install 
  193.  a WINCHECK group in the program manager with a TUT (Tutorial) account.
  194.  To use our SETUP-WC.EXE program...
  195.  
  196.    1) Close down all extraneous Windows applications.
  197.  
  198.    2) Then do ONE of the following:
  199.  
  200.        A) From File Manager,  locate then double click the SETUP-WC.EXE
  201.           file on the installation disk or directory:
  202.  
  203.           OR
  204.  
  205.        B) From Program Manager, pull down the FILE menu, and select the
  206.           RUN oprion.  Enter
  207.               A:\SETUP-WC.EXE"
  208.               or "B:\SETUP-WC.EXE" if using your B: drive
  209.           and hit ENTER.
  210.  
  211.    3) When the setup program asks for a directory, specify initial directory,
  212.       or accept the given default (C:\WINCHECK).
  213.  
  214.    4) When the next dialog box shows up, you can select what you want to
  215.       install.  If there is any doubt, select everything by hitting the
  216.       "Add All" button.
  217.  
  218.    5) Then push the INSTALL button to install WinCheck.
  219.  
  220.    6) When the setup process is complete, you may delete the temporary
  221.       directory you created in the first step.

  226.           *** PRINTING PROBLEMS? ***
  227.  
  228.     Refer to the On-Line Help topic "Printing Checks" for help with 
  229.     printing checks to a Dot Matrix Printer, or Section 12 of the
  230.     WinCheck User's Manual for Laser checks.
  231.     
  232.     Most printer drivers have special features that take added
  233.     advantage of the Windows 3.0 environment.  WinCheck assumes
  234.     that you have one of these drivers installed.  Some older
  235.     printer drivers, and current versions of some font packages
  236.     (Bitstream Facelift) do not support these features. 
  237.  
  238.     If WinCheck does not print properly on your system, add the
  239.     following line to the [WiChk14a] section of your WIN.INI file:
  240.  
  241.     NODEVMODE=1
  242.  
  243.     This line will cause WinCheck to bypass the special printer
  244.     driver features that cause the problems.  Note:  You will not
  245.     be able to print landscape checks if you use the NODEVMODE=1
  246.     option.

  357.  WinCheck is not and has never been public domain software, nor
  358.  is it free software.

  360.  Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use WinCheck

  362.  WinCheck is suitable for their needs.  The use of WinCheck, except
  363.  for the initial 21-day trial, requires registration.  The use of
